Who are we? We are a small husband and wife design firm located in Southeast Michigan. We don’t have a map handy so if you hold up your left hand and look at the back of it, we’re located at the edge of that fleshy part of skin below your thumb. To be more specific, we’re based in Grosse Pointe Michigan. Did you ever see the movie Grosse Pointe Blank? That’s the place. We have been working together longer than we’ve been married, and we’ve been married for 11 years. That’s a lot of designing between the two of us and over the years we’ve fine tuned our teamwork skills. Yep, we fought a lot.
So what’s with the name Yo Yo? We were going to call ourselves Young and Young Studios, but it just didn’t have the right ring we were looking for. We decided to shorten it to Yo Yo Studios. Pretty catchy, eh? Then we asked ourselves, what is a Yo Yo? Sure it’s a toy, a pretty simple one in fact. But we think it’s simplicity is an understatement. A yo-yo is really complex, surprising, and can be played with in so many different ways. We think that’s the way design works too. It may look simple, but it takes a lot of skill, imagination and expertise to be successful at it.
Yada, Yada, Yada... but what do you do? We pride ourselves on our ability to do it all. Web site design and advertising, animation, print work, video, and illustration. That’s the commercial side. We also make handmade invitations, create ceramics and dabble in hand painted children’s furniture. Need an amazing web site for your business and a few raku pots for your waiting area? We’re the designers to call.
What were your names again? Bill Young, Owner and Creative Director. Michelle Young, Owner and Creative Director.
Tell me a little about yourselves. Bill graduated from DePauw University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He has worked for publication houses, animation studios, ad agencies and interactive companies. His areas of expertise are web design, animation, video, print, illustration and ceramics. That’s a lot of expertise for one guy.
Michelle graduated from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She has worked for magazines, investment companies, ad agencies and design firms. She’s spent most of her career as a freelance artist. Her areas of expertise are print, illustration, handmade invitations and hand painted furniture. She makes a mean flourless chocolate cake too.
Come on, be serious. We are serious. Serious about creating great design, making our clients happy and providing the look they need to portray a successful image for their business. Take a look around the site and contact us. You know you want to.
